Drug Information:
Ecotrin is a salicylate (sa-LIS-il-ate). It works by reducing substances in the body that cause pain, fever, and inflammation. Ecotrin is used to treat pain, and reduce fever or inflammation. This medicine is sometimes used to treat or prevent heart attacks, strokes, and chest pain (angina). This medicine should be used for cardiovascular conditions only under the supervision of a doctor. Ecotrin may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide. You should not use Ecotrin if you have a bleeding disorder such as hemophilia, a recent history of stomach or intestinal bleeding, or if you are allergic to an NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug). Along with its needed effects, aspirin (the active ingredient contained in Ecotrin) may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

  • rapid, deep breathing
  • restlessness
  • seizures
  • skin rash
  • stomach cramps
  • swelling of the face, fingers, or lower legs
  • unusual bleeding or bruising
  • unusual tiredness or weakness
  • upper right abdominal or stomach
  • vomiting of blood or material that looks like coffee grounds
  • weakness or heaviness of the legs
  • weight gain
  • yellow eyes and skin
